Israel through the Lens – Assaf Frank 27 April 2023

This was probably a first for PSCC. We promoted Assaf's talk on local Facebook sites and managed to attract a good number of non members who contributed £55 to our accounts.

Assaf took us on a round trip of Israel from the rural farmland where he grew up with his parents helping to harvest thousands of eggs a day, to the fruit and vegetable markets and some glimpses of his favourite street food. We saw images from the built up areas of Tel-Aviv, Jaffa which everyone associates with its oranges, and some great images from the most holy areas of Jerusalem. A number of memorable images were shown from around the Dead Sea, the lowest body of water on our planet, including the site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Assaf captured some excellent shots of Ibex looking fairly precarious on the edge of cliffs but perhaps the most striking images were the stunning landscapes and seascapes, many taken in an area only a short car journey from where Assaf's family live. If one wants to be guaranteed perfect sunsets in areas of such natural beauty this is obviously the place to go!

In addition to the wonderful photography Assaf educated us with ample facts about this fascinating country which is rich in history. Any members that didn't attend missed a memorable evening which was additionally a celebration of Ailsa's birthday and the club would like to thank Ailsa for supplying a lovely mix of drinks and nibbles.
